Flourishing Mind Parenting Support Group

We are currently in the process of developing a number of support groups to support parents and carers. Our aim for the groups is to provide a safe space where experiences can be shared and possible solutions can be found. It will also help reduce the feeling of being on your own that is often experienced by parents and carers.

We hoping to start running these groups from April 2017. If you would like us to let you know when we have dates available, please email us at office@flourishing-minds.org.

Flourishing Minds Therapeutic Parenting Support Programme

We designed our Flourishing Minds Therapeutic Parenting Support programme at the request of parents and organisations that use our therapy services, as they expressed the need for a more tailored parenting programme.

Our programmes focus on the individual needs of parents by building on the parenting skills they have and developing areas where they lack the confidence or feel they are not being good enough parents.

Our support programme builds on the strengths that parents have and enables them to explore with other parents how they can change their parenting styles to establish a positive relationship with their child or children.

Aims of the Flourishing Minds Parenting Support Programme

We designed all of our programmes to meeting the following aims:

  • Promoting understanding of childrens behaviour within the context of developmental issues
  • Promoting child/parent relationships
  • Increasing confidence and self-esteem in both parents and children
  • Giving parents a strategy for repair when things go wrong
  • Developing a framework for thinking about parent/child relationships
  • Promoting reflective, sensitive, and effective parenting
  • Tuning into your childs developmental needs
  • Working on parent/child relationships – having fun together
  • Improving parent/child communication

The Flourishing Minds Children and Families Therapy Service is an independent community-based counselling service based in Feltham, providing affordable self-referral therapeutic services for children, parents, and adults.

Which programme is right for you?

Which programme is right for you depends on what you are looking for in relation to parenting support. At Flourishing Minds, we offer a range of parenting groups to suit a variety of needs.

Being a Parent – Everyday Parenting Programme:

This 6-week programme helps you to understand your child’s emotional development and how this may present though their behaviour. Youll learn strategies to manage boundaries and develop realistic expectations in relation to your child’s behaviour.

Young Parents Programme:

This 6-week programme is a supportive parenting programme that helps you as a young parent to deal with the transition of becoming a parent and the major changes this brings in your lives. It explores how your own individual childhood experiences may influence their present parenting styles and helps young people build confidence in their own ability to be parents. We also help you develop awareness of their baby or childs emotional and physical needs and how you can meet these needs.

Domestic Abuse Programme:

This 6-week programme enables you as a parent to develop a deeper understanding of the impact of your own experience of abuse and trauma within your adult relationships and how this experience may influence your parenting styles. By sharing your experiences with others, you will gain confidence in your own ability to make decisions in relation to your child’s physical and emotional safety, gain an insight into your child’s developmental needs, and understand how to establish healthy boundaries and expectations with your child. We also look at ways to help establish trust between yourself and your child.

We are currently developing further parenting programmes that will focus on the unique parenting issues experienced by parents who have mental health issues, parenting after addiction, post-natal depression, and for parents who have children with a range of special needs.
